This is a program that takes place at the child’s school, during the school year - but it's NOT about homework!
The In-School Mentoring Program provides a new way of delivering our traditional, successful Big Brother Big Sister program. It is based on the one-to-one Big-Little relationship, but minimizes the time commitment of the volunteer. It allows us to utilize a new group of volunteers in women, and it also allows us to reach a new group of children in our community.

Elementary:
This is a mentorship program for boys and girls in grades 2-7 in local elementary schools. Our agency works with the school to identify those children who would most benefit from a one-to-one relationship with a caring adult. The Mentor spends one hour per week doing a fun activity or just talking with a child who could use a friend. Suggested activities include physical activity, board games, visiting the school library, crafts, computer activities and cooking or baking. Our role includes preparing the child for the match, screening and preparing the Mentor for his/her role, matching the child and the Mentor together, and then providing ongoing support until the closure of the match.
Our volunteers are men and women whose employers grant time one hour weekly during the work day, retired men and women, self-employed professionals, individuals with flexible working hours and high school, college or university students. Minimum age for this program is 16.
We encourage employers to give employees the time during the work day to volunteer…studies show that people who volunteer perform better on the job!
